Dear Clients, Colleagues and Friends:
Happy holidays and welcome to the December 2007 issue of the International Lawyer Coach Newsletter™ published by International Lawyer Coach, Inc.
NEW DEVELOPMENT: CHAPTER IN ABA BOOK The ABA’s Section of International Law is days away from releasing the third edition of its bestselling Careers in International Law. I had the honor of contributing a chapter titled Creative Career Strategies for Launching and Growing an International Law Career. Although Amazon still offers the second edition for sale, the third edition should be available in January— or at least so says the ABA. If it’s not released in time for the Christmas holidays, perhaps the book will make a nice Valentine’s Day gift!
CUSTOMIZED TRAINING AND RETREATS Our business continues to grow—particularly in the areas of Training Programs and Retreats. Recent topics include:
—Cross Cultural Client Development —Global Rainmaking —Effective Team Communication —Teambuilding Training Across Offices —Communicating Legal Advice so that Clients Will Listen and Understand You
Please contact us for more information about a customized law firm or corporate legal department training or retreat—which can be designed to include CLE credit.
GROUP COACHING LAUNCH In response to client requests, I will be launching a group coaching program in 2008. These bi-monthly telephone sessions will give a limited number of lawyers the chance for a mini-training session followed by group coaching. Participants may remain anonymous if they wish. For more information email me at: Janet@InternationalLawyerCoach.com.
CLIENT DEVELOPMENT TIP: WATCH YOUR SCENT This may be one of the craziest blog posts I’ve written…but my readers seem to love it! According to the Economist, exceedingly subtle scents—whether sprayed in a room or worn by a person—really influence our impressions of other people. In fact, these subtle scents can heavily influence a person’s apparent “likeability”. For more on creating scent-induced likeability, and even using scent as a rainmaking tool (hmmm…), read Scents: A New Client Development Tool?
CAREER TIP: UNDERSTAND LAWYER NETWORK PROS AND CONS While in London a few months ago for speaking and training, I participated in some healthy discussions about the merits of various international law firm networks. For more on this topic, read To Network-or Not to Network? That is the Question.
PLEASE FORWARD AND COMMENTS WELCOME Please forward this newsletter to friends and colleagues who may be interested in receiving it. Please also email me questions and suggestions: Janet@InternationalLawyerCoach.com. I welcome your feedback.
…AND ENDING ON AN INTERNATIONAL NOTE WITH A QUOTE “After all, science is essentially international, and it is only through a lack of historical sense that national qualities have been attributed to it.” Marie Curie, Scientist (1892-1983)
Best wishes for a happy holiday season,
